The Mammut Crag Rope Bag is a full-service rope bag that pulls double-duty as a light-weight crag pack for casual sport climbing and gym sessions. I like that I can use this as simply a rope bag or stuff it with shoes, harness, chalk bag and draws to move quickly from one wall to another. A removable tarp allows me to set up my rope under my next climb while leaving the rest of my gear inside the pack. And its full-length roll closure makes it easy to open and close.

Should you buy it? Yes. This is a unique and functional rope bag that also gives you the option to go light and fast at sport crags with all your personal gear.

What I like

I like the flexibility that the Mammut Crag Rope Bag gives me. It can be just a rope bag, and I can shove it into a larger cragging pack, like my Black Diamond Pipe Dream 45.  But I can also use this as a stand alone cragging pack that makes it easy to move around from wall to wall, or just hit up a crag or a gym for a short sesh without bringing everything I might normally need. The clamshell roll-top system is super easy to open and shut.

What I don't like

One small gripe is that I wish the removable tarp were a little larger. That would make it easier to fold the rope up and shove it into the pack.

How I tested it

I used this pack at Rifle Mountain Park over the course of a month in the fall of 2022.
