Ironically, the egocentric chatter actually mimics the very thing the film’s talking heads disparage: Internet forums. The big loser, unfortunately, is the film’s star. Imagine being 19, saving up for your first big trip, being independent and at the height of your powers, and what a thrill that must be. You’d have to, because the film never presents this side—which is where climbing’s real soul is, not the debates that the movie attempts to be critical of, but by dwelling on them, ends up celebrating, rehashing and ultimately perpetuating to the detriment of our sport.
