A number of free soloist make their best ascents after break-ups, bouts of depression, and other emotionally traumatic phases. The uncaring nature of dying relaxes the climber and makes them perform better in such a mentally taxing game. I don't know many chipper soloists.

climbing is a sport where style and etiquette are talked about soooooo much that it just takes all the fun away from it. who cares what someone climbs in. based on all of the literature one reads on blogs, climbing mags and sites, i could easily draw a conclusion that climbers are the most egotistical, pretentious athletes ever.... i mean, you climb a rock for crying out loud. it would be cool to see climbers support each other and encourage new climbers, then climbing might get the respect it deserves.

This is amazing. You're my favorite. Guest, you're a douche. If you can honestly tell me that you would witness a situation like the one described above and think to yourself "good for him, he must be having such a fun time!", you must poop rainbows. I sure had a good time reading this.

Yo,
your article on Justen Sjong says:
Justen also says, “Train heavy, perform light.” In other words, eat well and and eat a lot during periods of training. Try to keep the weight down during performance weeks.

If short term dieting for immediate performance suits your goals, Rad. If brings you to the point of "self-loathing" or condemning other climbers for their desire to improve... I think you're missing out on the point of climbing.

Go have fun.

Not sure about the Lace-Ups, but the Instinct-S (slippers) are my favorite shoes ever. A slightly stiffer and slightly downturned slipper. I have loved Cobras for years and Miuras when the Cobras were too soft. These sit right in between those 2 shoes and are now my go too shoes 90% of the time.
